BYU leads Weber State 39-37 at half

For the first four minutes of the game, the two teams traded points bucket for bucket, neither team able to go on a run. With 15:48 on the clock, a 3-pointer from Jake Toolson sparked the team to go on a 9-0 run. A baseline-layup from Chase Fischer capped off the run, extending BYU’s lead to 18-12.

Chase Fischer started the second half for the Cougars by taking the ball to the rim. He was fouled on the shot, and made one of two free-throws to put the Cougars down 42-41 with 19:40 to play. Corbin Kaufusi added a layup off a rebound to put the Cougars ahead 43-42 with 19 minutes to play. Belmont's Tyler Hadden converted both of his free-throws on the next possession to give the Bruins the lead again, 44-43.

After Kyle Collinsworth took the ball to the rim after winning the tip to start the game, the Cougars went 0 of 7 during a scoring drought of three minutes until Kyle Davis scored on a putback with 16:20 to play, making it 5-4 for Belmont.

BYU football faces Utah State at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah with kickoff at 1:30 MST.

The game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network. Live coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. MST with BYUtv's pregame show Countdown to Kickoff. Live postgame coverage on BYUtv will follow after the game.

Mississippi Valley came out strong in the second half, getting within five of BYU, 46-41. The Cougars got four quick points from the bigs after Corbin Kaufusi got the bucket and the foul and then Kyle Davis tipped in the missed free throw. Those four points put BYU up 50-41 with 17:44 to go in the game.

Chase Fischer drilled a 3-pointer to get the offense rolling for BYU. The Cougars then went on a 7-0 run to go up 10-2 over the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils early in the first half. A three from Nick Emery at the 18:01 mark capped off the run.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Tanner Mangum pitched the ball to tight end Remington Peck, who threw the ball to Terenn Houk for a 15-yard touchdown pass to give the Cougars 45-3 lead.

Bronson Kaufusi's sack ended Fresno State's opening drive and forced them to punt it away. BYU got the ball on its 41-yard line. Francis Bernard capped off a 9-play, 59-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Trevor Samson hit the PAT to make the score 31-3 with 9:59 to play.

Tanner Mangum started off the second quarter by firing a 45-yard pass to Mitch Mathews to put the Cougars on the 10-yard line. Francis Bernard ran the ball into the end zone from the 1-yard line to cap off a five-play, 51-yard drive to give BYU a 10-3 lead.

Both teams traded 3-and-outs to start the game.

A 23-yard pass from Tanner Mangum to Moroni Laulu-Pututau got the Cougars off of their 6-yard line and to the 30-yard line. However, the Cougars couldn't get anything else going offensively and punted the ball away to the Bulldogs.
