Football arrives in California in advance of Saturday's regular-season finale

Following some meetings and a morning practice, the BYU football team left Provo early Friday afternoon for California and its Saturday matchup with the Cal Bears.
 
After checking in at the Walnut Creek Marriott, followed by a quick dinner, the football team boarded buses for the Lafayette/Walnut Creek Overlook Chapel to participate in the customary BYU football fireside.
 
The fireside was attended by more than 700 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their friends.

Cougars blow out Tigers in 64-0 win

Trevor Samson opened the final quarter with a 31-yard field goal to extend the Cougars’ lead 54-0 at the 14:55 mark. On the Tigers’ next possession, SSU fumbled the ball and was recovered by Tanner Balderree on SSU’s 23-yard line, which led to a 32-yard field goal by Trevor Samson to push BYU’s lead up 57-0.

BYU and SSU keep each other scoreless in the third quarter to keep the score at 51-0.

The Cougars kicked off the second half sacking SSU’s Leon Prunty for a loss of 10 yards and forced SSU to punt. BYU fumbled the ball on its possession and it was recovered by Tigers’ Marcus Lee on BYU’s 35-yard line, but SUU didn’t score.

Following SSU’s fake punt and turnover, Terenn Houk completed a 9-yard touchdown catch from Christian Stewart to push BYU’s lead up 28-0 with 12:31 remaining in the first half. On the Tigers’ next possession, Alani Fua intercepted SSU Leon Prunty’s pass to return for 20 yards to SSU’s 6-yard line. Stewart rushed for 6 yards for another touchdown on the next possession to extend the Cougars’ lead 35-0.

BYU scored the first points of the game on a 71-yard touchdown catch by Mitch Mathews from Christian Stewart at the 1:20 mark to lead 7-0.

Anson Winder, Luke Worthington and Chase Fischer paced BYU early in the second half, combining for 14 points as the Cougars stretched their lead to 74-28 seven minutes into the half.

BYU won the tip and capitalized on its first possession, with senior guard Tyler Haws knocking down a jumper. Haws and sophomore guard Luke Worthington accounted for all of BYU's first 13 points, as the Cougars jumped out to a 13-4 lead five minutes into the game.

The Cougars opened the second half with a 14-5 start that included Chase Fischer and Tyler Haws’ shots from beyond the arc and a Haws steal and dunk on the break to extend their lead 51-33. The Trojans responded with an 8-0 run of their own but ended on Anson Winder’s 3-pointer at the 13:27 mark to keep BYU’s lead 56-44.

The Cougars and Trojans started with a back-and-forth battle with Tyler Haws scoring the first BYU points at the 18:52 mark to trail 3-2. Chase Fischer hit one from deep to tie it at 5 apiece with Luke Worthington’s dunk giving the Cougars a 13-11 lead five minutes into the half.

TV Plans announced for BYU game at Cal on Nov. 29

PROVO, Utah (Nov. 17, 2014) — The Pac-12 announced Monday that BYU’s regular-season finale at California on Saturday, Nov. 29 will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks with kickoff at either 1:30 or 3 p.m. PT. The announcement of the final kickoff time is scheduled to take place this Saturday or Sunday.

The game will air on all of the Pac-12 Networks. The Pac-12 Network is available on Dish Network (channel 409) and through other cable providers and TV services. In Utah, Comcast provides the Pac-12 Network on channel 410 and Pac-12 Mountain on channel 37.
