Cougars lead LMU 38-24 at the half

BYU got off to a slow start, allowing Loyola Marymount to score eight unanswered points, including two dunks. A tough layup made by Kyle Davis at the 17:24 mark ended the run. Chase Fischer drilled a three to close in on the lead, 8-5.

NEW COUGARS:  Left-handed pitchers Bo Burrup and Rhett Parkinson officially joined the team when classes began the first day of this month.  Both are recently returned from serving church missions to Baltimore, Maryland and Salem, Oregon, respectively.  Burrup signed with BYU before his mission and Parkinson signed with BYU several years ago before enrolling at Salt Lake Community College.

Three early fouls for the Dons gave the Cougars six quick points, putting them up 57-47 in the first minute of second half play.

Tim Derksen's 3-pointer brought the Dons within seven, but Nick Emery hit a 3 from the left corner and Chase Fischer added a breakaway layup to give the Cougars a 62-50 lead with 15:57 to play.

Teams traded baskets to open up the first half of play with the Cougars tying the game at 5-all on a driving layup by Nick Emery. With 15 minutes to go in the half, Chase Fischer and Emery hit back-to-back 3-point field goals to give BYU the 16-13 advantage.

BYU started off the half hot with six straight points in the paint and an Emery 3-pointer to take its biggest lead of the game to that point, 57-38. Out of the first media timeout, the Cougars went on a quick 6-1 run thanks to a Collinsworth bucket and free throw and an Emery 3-pointer to go up 67-43 with 14:29 to play.

BYU opened up the game with a 7-2 lead over Santa Clara behind a Chase Fischer 3-pointer from the corner and buckets by Kyle Davis and Kyle Collinsworth. Both teams traded missed jumpers until Collinsworth extended the Cougars' lead to 12-5 with a basket off glass after he secured two consecutive offensive rebounds off his own misses.

Teams traded baskets through the first part of the second half making the score 54-54 at the 14:21 mark. BYU then pulled ahead 65-57 behind three 3-pointers and a layup by Zac Seljaas.

With 10 minutes to go in the second half, Central Michigan's Josh Kozinski hit his sixth 3-point field goal of the game to bring the Chippewas within five, 65-60. Seljaas responded with his sixth 3-pointer on the night to go up 70-60, giving Seljaas a career-high 20 points for the game.

BYU opened up the game on a 4-0 run behind a 15-foot jumper by Kyle Collinsworth and two made free throws by sophomore center Corbin Kaufusi. After two Chippewa baskets, the Cougars extended their lead to eight, 13-5, on a 3-point field goal by Chase Fischer.

Three Cougars named to 2016 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Preseason All-American teams

PROVO, Utah – Three BYU men's volleyball players were named to the 2016 Off the Block/Sprinbak, Inc. Preseason All-American teams, the site announced Thursday.

An 18-member voting committee, comprised of head men's volleyball coaches and volleyball reporters, selected 21 players to the first and second teams - including Ben Patch on the first team and Jake Langlois and Brenden Sander on the second team.

Women's volleyball prepares for Nebraska

No. 13 seed BYU women's volleyball spent Thursday morning working on homework, studying for finals and studying film on No. 4 seed Nebraska. Before practice head coach Heather Olmstead, Amy Boswell, Alexa Gray and Ciara Parker fielded questions from the media in a press conference. Immediately after, the team took to Memorial Coliseum for the first time to practice on the unfamiliar court.
