Putnam Invited to Green Bay Minicamp

The Green Bay Packers have invited former BYU defensive lineman Matt Putnam to their minicamp starting May 11. Putnam has not signed a free agent contract with the team but will go to the three-day minicamp seeking the chance to join the Packers’ preseason camp this summer.

BYU's McKay Jacobson Becomes Fourth Cougar to Ink NFL Free Agent Deal

BYU wide receiver McKay Jacobson signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Four BYU football players from the 2011 team have signed free-agent contracts with NFL teams since the league’s annual draft concluded Saturday night.

On Mason Marshall

Mason Marshall will be featured tonight on True Blue on BYUtv, airing at 6 p.m., with replays at 9 p.m. and on Tuesday., Apr. 24 at 12 a.m., 5:30 p.m. MDT.  Marshall told True Blue reporter Robbie Bullough, who stands 5-foot-5, that he stands 5-foot-9.  We list Marshall at 5-foot-8, even though he reported on his information sheet as 5-foot-10.

On Friday, April 13, BYU will be playing at 6 p.m. (PDT) at Cheney Stadium where Coach Vance Law played as a pro. Coach Law played one month in 1991 for the Tacoma A's while he was under contract with the Oakland A's and in 1979-80 he played a couple times in that stadium while playing for the AAA Portland Beavers.

BYU Hall of Famer Harold Christensen Passes Away

Former Cougar Harold Christensen, a starter on the 1951 NIT Championship team and a member of the Cougar Club Hall of Fame, died Tuesday at the age of 80.

Prior to coming to BYU, Christensen was a star for B.Y. High School. He was selected to play in the 1949 High School All-Star Game in Kentucky and was named a high school All-American. At BYU, Christensen helped the Cougars win the 1951 NIT, earned all-conference honors in 1952 and 1953 and played in the 1953 East-West All-Star Game in Kansas City.

Oregon Baseball Trip

BYU's baseball team flew to Oregon yesterday, but Thursday's baseball game with the University of Portland has been postponed to Friday due to rain.

The Pilots and Cougars are scheduled to now play a doubleheader on Friday at the newly-opened Hilken Stadium.  Hilken Stadium is at Concordia University in Portland, one of at least seven four-year schools with the name Concordia--others are located in New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago and Texas.
