If anything else, distance runner Lindsey Sowards Nielson is a lover of all things Spanish. She's a Spanish major, her favorite movie is Nacho Libre, she would love to visit Peru and loves the Twilight series...but in Spanish.

The most unique aspect of her UP CLOSE story is she raised chickens like most people raise dogs...as pets. The chickens would even come to her and sit in her lap when she called to them.

For Deezbaa Whaley, family is quite important. There is not anything she would rather do than be with family. Even coming to BYU is part of a long standing family tradition.

MISSIONS, MISSIONS: There are 21 Catholic missions that were originally established in California. The West Coast Conference has schools in two of those cities Santa Clara (1777) and San Diego (1769).  While San Bernardino isn’t among those 21 missions, it is the headquarters where BYU freshman catcher Collin Braithwaite received his call last month to serve a mission starting this summer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
