Former player Jenavieve Phillips passed away

BYU Athletics wishes to offer its condolences to the family of former women's soccer player Jenavieve Phillips who passed away last Friday in her Gilbert, Ariz., hometown after being involved in a car accident. 

Phillips played in 40 games for BYU between 2002 and 2006. She played on three NCAA Tournament teams, including the 2003 team that went to the Elite Eight, and was a member of the 2002 MWC Championship Team. In her senior year, she helped lead the team to a No. 17 final regular season ranking. She was also a member of the U-19 National Team in 2003 and an Olympic Development Program member from 1998-2001.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of an amazing young women," said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "Jenavieve will always be remembered as a talented player for BYU Soccer, but more importantly, she will be remembered for her dedication, perseverance and compassion. She was a friend to all and will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family."

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 230 North Val Vista Drive, Gilbert, Ariz.
