BYU never trailed on their way to an 84-72 victory over Pepperdine.
BYU was led in scoring by Tyler Haws’ 35 points. Kyle Collinsworth continued his strong all-around play tallying 15 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and three steals. For the game, the Cougars shot 46.6 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from behind the arc. They held the Waves to 40.4 percent shooting and 30.4 percent from distance.
BYU started the half with five quick points from Skyler Halford to push the lead to eight, but Pepperdine kept it close going on a 6-0 run to pull back within two at 38-36. The Cougars then went on a 9-2 run to push the lead back up to nine at 51-42 with 12:04 left in the game.
The Cougars and Waves continued to battle back and forth with the lead varying between five and nine points over the next seven minutes. Pepperdine would cut the lead to two at 62-60 with 5:04 remaining. The Cougars responded quickly with a 13-2 run led by 11 points from Haws, including three 3-pointers, to take a 75-62 lead with 1:58 left in the game. BYU closed out the game from the line.
