After his career performance in the double overtime win over Mississippi State, sophomore linebacker Francis Bernard was named Madness Independent Defensive Player of the Week.
Bernard notched a career-high 16 tackles, 13 of which were solo stops. This is the second-highest total by a single player this season for the Cougars, the first being the 19-tackle performance by Butch Pau’u against UCLA. It is the most solo tackles by a BYU defender in a game this season. Bernard also had 1.0 TFL for a 6-yard loss.
This is the second defensive player of the week award for the Cougars since Pau'u earned the first one back after the first week of the season.
Army quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw was the Madness Independent Offensive Player of the Week. On the national level, Louisiana Tech wide receiver Carlos Henderson and Vanderbilt linebacker Zach Cunningham were named National Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
BYU is on the road this week at No. 14 Boise State on Thursday. The game will kickoff at 8:15 p.m. MDT on ESPN.
