PROVO -- Cougar House VIII, the most recent project in BYU Athletics’ partnership with the Utah Valley Home Builders Association (UVHBA), is now on sale substantially below its appraisal value.

Located on Beacon Drive in Saratoga Springs, the 5,444 sq. ft. home is on the market at $389,900 — more than $155,000 below where this beautiful home appraised for the 2008 Utah Valley Parade of Homes. The home is ready for move-in, complete with a custom front door, granite counter tops, custom cabinets and interior design provided by Four Chairs design agency.

“With recent changes in the economy, the Cougar House is an incredible opportunity for anyone in the market,” said Mitch McCuisition, chairman of Cougar House VIII. “This will be a half-million-dollar home when the market rebounds, but because of the generosity of more than 50 UVHBA participants who donated materials and labor, even with a reduced purchase price the sale of the home will benefit BYU’s student-athletes.”

Since 2001, the Cougar House project has generated more than $1 million to endow scholarships for BYU student-athletes and to fund other athletic priorities. On November 8 the UVHBA will be presenting a check to the university during the BYU vs. San Diego State football game. If the home is sold by then, the new owners will also be invited onto the field at LaVell Edwards Stadium to be part of the presentation.

Because the Cougar House is built and backed by the UVHBA, not only will its owners receive a homeowners’ warranty to protect their investment, the home also has many custom features including an upgraded stone exterior accented with wood timbers, a fully landscaped yard, an upstairs loft and theater room, upgraded appliances, custom cabinetry, deluxe flooring and professional decorating. All of these features exceed anything included in the standard-priced, spec homes with which the Cougar House is now competitively priced.

The three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home includes a three-car garage, a playroom and entertainment room, a fireplace, walk-in closets and a beautiful views of Utah Lake, the mountains and the valley. Because of its location, the home also qualifies for HUD’s Rural Housing Development Program, which means that a qualified buyer could receive a federal loan for 100 percent of the purchase price and buy with zero down.

Unlike most homebuyers, the purchaser of the Cougar House will be investing in more than real estate. Along with the home comes a lifelong partnership with BYU Athletics and the knowledge that your home purchase is directly assisting every student-athlete who attends BYU.

In previous years Cougar House donations purchased all of the new white helmets when BYU Football changed back to its traditional helmet color. One year the program even provided the football scholarships for the Cougars’ entire starting offense. In total, more than 30 BYU student-athletes — including future NFL players and collegiate All-Americans — have received their athletic scholarships through the UVHBA’s generosity and the support of the buyers who have purchased the last seven Cougar Houses.

“Not only did we get a beautiful home when we purchased Cougar House VII, but we were able to help the community and local students,” said Rob Lindsey, the most-recent purchaser of a Cougar House. “Plus, it’s comforting to know we have the entire Home Builders Association behind this one project. We got a house, BYU tickets, a great network of people standing behind the product and the satisfaction of knowing our money is going to a good cause.”
