BEFORE BYU (at Bartlesville HS):
- Was a high school All-American nominee
- Averaged 26.7 points per game as a senior and was the third-highest scorer in the state of Oklahoma and the highest in the 6A division
- Recipient of the KTUL-TV Elite 8 Campions Award as the best boys basketball player in his area of the state
- Scored 36 of the Bruins' 49 points in a state quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Putnam City
- Averaged 19.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game as a junior, helping the Bruins finish 25-3 and advance to the state championship game
- Named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year and first-team all-state
- Received several tournament MVP awards for his play with the Oklahoma Adidas Pump and Run team
