Why BYU?

OUR MISSIONBYU seeks to develop students of faith, intellect, and character who have the skills and the desire to continue learning and to serve others throughout their lives. The BYU men's volleyball team extends this mission by providing its student-athletes with an educational, spiritual and athletic experience to be outstanding ambassadors for the University, and the Church throughout their lives.

A PLACE FOR WINNERSBYU is home to three national titles and 41 AVCA All-America citations since the program began competing at the Division I level in 1990. Volleyball standouts have also received numerous accolades at the regional and national levels. In its 20 years, Cougar teams have recorded 16 winning seasons, three conference championships crowns and have made four NCAA tournament appearances.

LEARNING AND SERVICEBy “entering to learn” and continuing to learn as they “go forth to serve,” BYU students strengthen not only themselves - they “also bring strength to others in the tasks of home and family life, social relationships, civic duty, and service to mankind.” BYU should inspire students to keep alive their curiosity and prepare them to continue learning throughout their lives.

SCHEDULE & OPPONENTSAs members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the Cougars’ conference schedule increases in difficulty year after year. Since BYU began playing NCAA volleyball in 1990, an MPSF team has won the national title every year except 1994, 2003 and 2008. The Cougar schedule consistently includes contests with top-10 programs like UC Irvine, USC, Stanford, Penn State, UCLA, Hawaii, Pepperdine, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State to name a few.

OUTSTANDING FACILITIESBYU men's volleyball is home to some of the nation’s top volleyball facilities. These include leading edge athletic training facilities, a team room and an academic center that provides all of the educational needs for the student-athlete to succeed academically. In 2009 the Smith Fieldhouse, which holds a capacity of 5,000, was selected as the host facility of the 2009 NCAA National Championships.

FAN SUPPORTFew universities have a fan base as loyal, dedicated and die-hard as BYU. Cougar fans are some of the greatest fans on earth. Considered one of the toughest places for opponents to play in collegiate volleyball, the Smith Fieldhouse consistently ranks among the NCAA's best in attendance. With its affiliation with the LDS Church, BYU also has a strong national and international following.
