Coriann Wood lit up Portland for a new career high, propelling BYU to a 69-57 win over the Pilots for its third consecutive victory.
Wood went into halftime scoring 15 points off 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point line. The junior came off the bench four minutes into the game, scoring 12 of the Cougars’ next 15 points.
Wood finished with 17 points to go along with six rebounds and one block.
The Cougar defense kept a tight lid on Portland, led by a full-court press that frustrated the Pilot offense and forced 19 turnovers while keeping themselves to just six, a season low.
The Cougars stretched the lead into double-digits with five minutes left in the first half, using a 10-1 run to take a 31-18 lead. Jazmine Foreman scored on a layup, and then Haley Hall took a swing pass after a steal in the backcourt, sinking her second three-pointer of the half.
