Jonathan Cluff was one of nine Cougars selected to the All-Academic MWC team.
Seniors Jonathan Cluff, Sean McNaughton, Brandon Michon and Kevin Sloan head the 10-man baseball BYU selections as Academic All-Mountain West Conference.
McNaughton, Michon, Sloan, Austin Hall, Shawn Hardesty and Stephen Wells are repeat selections from the Cougar baseball team. Rounding out the 10 named to that honor are Wes Guenther, Dane Nielsen and David Parry.
“I am proud of these players for staying on top of their studies with as much time as we spend on the road,” said BYU coach Vance Law. “It is a tribute to them for meeting a big challenge.”
Cluff, an outfielder, had a 3.01 GPA in leisure services management. Guenther, a sophomore catcher, had a 3.76 GPA in exercise science. Hall, a sophomore third baseman had a 3.12 GPA in exercise science. Hardesty, a junior pitcher, had a 3.53 GPA in English.
McNaughton, an outfielder had a 3.18 GPA in history. Michon, a pitcher, had a 3.2 GPA in construction management. Nielsen, a junior second baseman, had a 3.41 GPA in exercise science. Parry, a sophomore pitcher had a 3.87 GPA in pre-management. Sloan, a pitcher, had a 3.46 GPA in Italian. Wells, a sophomore outfielder had a 3.16 GPA.
To be eligible for this recognition, student-athletes must finish at least one academic term while at BYU and receive a 3.0 or higher grade point average. Athletes must also be starters or significant contributors to their teams.
Other baseball teams in the MWC had the following representation on the All-Academic teams: UNLV 15, TCU 12, Utah and New Mexico each had seven, and Air Force Academy and San Diego State each had three.
