PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball has one of the best fan bases in the nation and the Cougar faithful proved it once again in 2012-13. The NCAA released the men’s basketball attendance report from this past season earlier this week and the Cougars were ranked No. 13 in the nation and No. 1 in the West.

BYU played 18 home games and averaged 15,986 fans per contest. The Cal State Northridge game on Nov. 24, 2012 was a sellout and the team had crowds of 16,000-plus fans on 11 different occasions.

The No. 13 ranking marks the sixth-straight season BYU has been among the top 25 in attendance and the third-straight season the Cougars have been in the top 15. During BYU’s run to the Sweet 16 in 2010-11, an average of 18,714 fans attended games in the Marriott Center – good for No. 6 in the nation. In 2011-12, the Cougar faithful were ranked No. 12 in attendance with an average of 15,424.

When the Cougars play on the road, the host team typically draws a larger crowd than what it averages in a normal home game. In 2012-13, schools saw an average increase of 865 fans per game when BYU visited. The average increase in 2011-12 was 1,195 and in 2010-11 it was 2,820.

"It’s no surprise to me that our fans are some of the best in the country!" BYU All-America candidate Tyler Haws said. "They bring energy every single game. I have loved the Marriott Center since I was a little dude. Thanks, Cougar fans!"
