Portland up next for BYU men's basketball

BYU Game Notes

BYU basketball will look to bounce back from a loss to No. 1/1 Gonzaga when the Cougars host Portland Saturday in the Marriott Center at 7 p.m. MST. Saturday's game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143.

BYU Storylines

  • BYU is 14-2 all-time against Portland and has won five of the last six overall and all eight meetings in Provo. Last season the Cougars defeated the Pilots 99-81 in the Marriott Center with Nick Emery and Corbin Kaufusi  in the starting lineup. Emery posted 18 points, four rebounds and four assists while Kaufusi had six points, six boards and one block.
  • Freshman TJ Haws has scored in double figures in each of the last four games, including a career-best 29 points against No. 1/1 Gonzaga on Thursday. Haws hit four 3s and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line on his way to 29 points, the sixth-most points scored by a BYU freshman.
  • Eric Mika was named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award on Friday.
