BYU's Martin Earns Mountain West Conference Cross Country Honors

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Brigham Young University redshirt freshman Katie Martin has been selected as the Mountain West Conference women's cross country athlete of the week.

Martin posted a 2nd-place finish at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., Sept. 30. Her time of 18:30 in the open 5K race led her team out of 244 total runners. The Fremont, Calif., native's time allowed her squad to finish first out of thirty teams, including a team fielded by host Stanford. Three other Cougars also finished in the top 10, which catapulted BYU to a No. 3 national ranking.

Coming up: BYU gets a weekend off to prepare for the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Ames, Iowa, Oct. 14.
