Northcutt Named MWC Athlete of Week

PROVO, Utah (Sept. 25, 2001) Following an impressive win at the Great American Festival last weekend, BYU senior Tara Northcutt was named the Mountain West Conference women's cross country athlete of the week today.

Northcutt finished the course in a time of 16:56.3 to lead the Cougars to a second-place team finish in the meet. The race consisted of 304 participants.

The honor marks the first time Northcutt has been named Mountain West Conference athlete of the week for cross country in her BYU career. Northcutt, a two-time All-American in cross country, is the first BYU runner to earn the award for the 2001 season.

Ben Payne, an Air Force Academy sophomore, was named the men's cross country athlete of the week after winning at the New Mexico Invitational last weekend.
