BYU earned 18 total selections from 17 players on the Preseason All-Independent Teams, second to Notre Dame's 20 selections. Wide receiver Cody Hoffman earned First Team honors as a wide receiver and was a Second Team selection at kick returner.

Along with Hansen and Hoffman's selections, quarterback Riley Nelson and offensive lineman Braden Brown were selected to the First Team offense. Wide receiver Ross Apo, tight end Marcus Mathews and offensive lineman Houston Reynolds were Second Team selections.

On defense, linebackers Brandon Ogletree and Kyle Van Noy, cornerback Preston Hadley and safety Daniel Sorensen were named to the First Team. Defensive linemen Eathyn Manumaleuna and Romney Fuga and linebacker Uona Kaveinga garnered Second Team honors.

Kicker Justin Sorensen, punter Riley Stephenson and JD Falslev were First Team special teamers, along with Hoffman's Second Team selection.
