FRESNO -- After enduring 36 holes of golf in cold, windy conditions, the BYU men’s golf team finds itself tied for third place at 14-over-par after two rounds at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.

The Cougars are tied with host Fresno State at the par-72 Belmont Country Club, trailing leaders UC-Davis and Washington (tied for first) by six strokes.

“The greens are hard and they’ve redesigned the bunkering of the course,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “I’m glad our guys have hung in there and finished as a group. We wore our raingear the entire day from the cold.”

Leading the way for the Cougars was junior Robbie Fillmore, who finished the rounds at even-par and tied for seventh place. He shot a one-under first round and then scored four birdies and three bogeys in the second round.

Nick Killpack also enjoyed a solid day of golf by finishing in tenth place at one-over-par after scoring two birdies and four bogeys in the second round. He also shot a one-under opening round.

“It’s good to be in contention at another tournament,” Brockbank said. “We had a few guys get off to a bad start but they kept going and scored some birdies throughout to help our overall score. We’ll take another run at it tomorrow.”

Sophomore Esteban Calisto played a consistent round of golf as he placed at No. 27 overall at 5-over-par. He made four birdies in the second round with just five bogeys. He also improved his second round score by three strokes from his four-over opening round.

Jordan Hammer and Brady Johnson continue to battle for the Cougars and are currently at 12-over-par. The duo combined for five birdies in the second round to help secure the team’s third-place finish.

Phil Huffman of UC-Davis leads the field at 5-under-par to help his team to the top spot with one round remaining on Tuesday.

The team will continue to battle Tuesday at 10:40 a.m. MT and can be followed on
