COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- TCU's Jennifer Ferguson tied the Mountain West Conference record with her fourth consecutive diver of the week honor, while R.J. Hesselberg was voted as the men's diver of the week to complete the Horned Frog's sweep of this week's MWC diving honors. BYU swept the swimming side, as Natasha Menezes and Brett Allen earned their first awards this season.
Menezes led the Cougars to a first-place finish out of 21 teams at the Speedo Cup last weekend, setting three MWC season-best times with personal best swims. The freshman from Denver, Colo., won the 500 freestyle (4:55.30) and the 1650 freestyle (17:10.44), while finishing third in the 200 freestyle (1:51.49). She also swam on the first-place 400 (3:29.24) and 800 (7:32.36) freestyle relays, helping BYU win its second Speedo Cup crown in school history.
Allen, a senior from Katy, Texas, set a current national and MWC best time in the 50 freestyle with a 19.82 in the prelims to lead the No. 24 Cougars to a second-place finish out of 15 teams at the Speedo Cup. He posted a 20.03 in the finals to finish second in the event before finishing third in the 100 freestyle (44.53). He also swam on the victorious 400-freestyle relay (2:59.98), finished second in both the 200-freestyle relay (1:21.52) and 400-medley relay (3:20.31 and helped the 200-medley relay place third (1:30.84). He helped set MWC season-best times in all six events.
