COLORADO SPRINGS -- The BYU men's swim and dive team was picked to take the MWC regular-season title, receiving three first-place votes. The BYU women tallied three first-place votes but ended up two points behind Utah who was picked to take the women's title. Both were voted by MWC head coaches.

"It means there is an expectation placed on us to do well," said head coach Tim Powers. "The polls mean we recruited well. We have always won the regular season conference championship so I guess until we don't we will always be picked to finish first for the regular season."

The BYU men's team totaled 23 points with UNLV falling right behind with 21 points and two first-place votes. Air Force received one first-place vote and 17 points to be ranked third. Utah (14 points), Wyoming (nine points) and TCU (six points) finished out the men's poll.

BYU women received a total of 50 points and three first-place votes but fell just short of Utah who had a total of 52 points and five first-place votes. UNLV ranked third with 43 points and one first-place vote followed by TCU's 32 points. Colorado State (31 points), Wyoming (23 points), New Mexico (12 points), San Diego State (10 points) and Air Force (two points) finished out the women's preseason poll.
