Team Captain Natasha Menezes and the rest of the BYU swim team will travel to Stockton, Calif. for the opening meet of the 2009-10 season.
PROVO -- This week the BYU swimming team will travel to its first meet of the season, the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Friday and Saturday.
“It is a chance that we get to swim a number of events to begin the season,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “We’ll have to see how they do. Some are ahead of where they were at this point in the season last year, so we expect them to do well.”
Among the teams at the Pacific Invitational will be Stanford (men), Cal (men), University of the Pacific, Oregon State (women), Air Force and University of Nevada - Reno (women).
After competing in the Blue and White inter-squad meet and the Utah freshman/sophomore meet, the Cougars will be back in the water in the first scored competition of the 2009-10 season.
Powers mentioned how there are some swimmers that are injured or sick and won’t be able to go to the meet. He hopes that they will be well before the conference season starts on Oct. 30 against UNLV at 6 p.m. at the Richards Building pool.
