Freshman standout Amy Menlove will compete in the long jump finals Saturday at the IAAF World Junior Championships.
GROSSETO -- Freshman Amy Menlove qualified for the finals in the long jump at the IAAF World Junior Championships Friday after placing sixth in her flight and eighth overall with a jump of 19 feet, 10 and one-half inches.
Menlove will compete in the final round of the long jump Saturday at 6:25 pm Central European Time with the other top 11 athletes in this event. At the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in College Station, Texas, she took second with a personal best jump of 21 feet, one and one-half inches.
Her season best mark from the 2004 outdoor season came at the NCAA National Championships, where she took 11th with a jump of 20 feet, six and one-half inch. Menlove also capture the long jump title in the Mountain West Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships and was named the Indoor MWC female of the year.
