PROVO -- After a 1-1 weekend against No. 2 UC Irvine, BYU remained the top-ranked men's volleyball team in both the coaches and media polls.
The Cougars (9-1, 5-1 MPSF) swept the Anteaters Friday evening before losing to UCI in a five-set thriller Saturday. Two of the five sets in Saturday's match required extra points with the Cougars losing the third set, 33-31 before winning the fourth, 31-29. UC Irvine's second-set win ended the Cougars' record streak of 23-consecutive set wins.
BYU handled the Anteaters Friday evening, 30-21, 30-22 and 30-27.
UC Irvine remained ranked second with BYU's next MPSF opponent, Pepperdine moving to No. 3.
The Cougars have this weekend off before heading to Southern California next week to take on NAIA No. 1 Cal-Baptist on Tuesday before taking on Pepperdine on Thursday and Saturday.
