INDIANAPOLIS---The 2013 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced today by the NCAA and the BYU women's gymnastics team is headed to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on April 6 for competition.

The Cougars have reached one of the six sites for NCAA regionals for the 22nd time in 25 years. BYU posted seven scores above 195 this year, the most since the 2005 season when the team finished 11th at the NCAA Championships.

Matching up against the Cougars in Tuscaloosa will be host No. 3 Alabama, the defending national champion, along with in-state foe No. 9 Utah and No. 15 Denver, No. 23 Kent State and Iowa State. 30 more teams will compete in the five additional regional competitions held on April 6 across the country. The top-two teams and the top-two all-around competitors (who are not representing an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the event winners at each regional site advance to the national championships (only in that specific event) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The top-18 teams are seeded nationally, based on regional qualifying score (RQS - a formula that takes a team's top three away scores, its next three highest scores, drops the high score and averages the remaining five). Teams 19-36 are organized into three pods (19-24, 25-30 and 31-36) and placed geographically at one of the six sites, beginning with teams 19-24 followed by teams 25-30 and then finally teams 31-36.  All-around competitors and event specialists are assigned to their respective geographic region or the designated site for their region (North Central – Columbus regional; and Northeast – Morgantown regional).

Broadcast information will be provided at a later date.
