Conference play opens with Santa Clara in the Marriott Center

The Cougars return to action Thursday to host Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. Thursday's game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143.

Freshman Yoeli Childs scored nine of the Cougars’ first 16 second half points to give BYU a 63-45 lead with 11:33 on the clock. The Roadrunners reduced the Cougars’ 22-point lead to 10 points with 8:08 left to play.

BYU responded with successful trips to the charity stripe throughout the half, shooting 63.6 percent, and extended its lead to 14 points, 77-63, with 2:16 left.

PROVO, Utah – BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake today announced the signing of junior college offensive lineman, John Taipe Vaka, out of Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California.

BYU holds off Wyoming for 24-21 Poinsettia Bowl win

SAN DIEGO – On a rare wet and rainy night at Qualcomm Stadium, BYU capped off its 2016 season with a wild 24-21 win over Wyoming in the 2016 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday.

BYU (9-4) led 24-7 in the fourth quarter, but a furious Cowboy (8-6) comeback made it a thriller in the final minutes. Wyoming cut the advantage to 24-21 and had the ball at the Cougar 32-yard line with 1:22 to play before senior Kai Nacua picked off a pass heading near the end zone to end the final threat of a comeback.

BYU football plays Wyoming in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl tonight at 6 p.m. PST on ESPN in Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

The game will be televised live on ESPN. It will also be streamed online on WatchESPN.com.
