Roberts, Dalton, Huang and White receive All-WCC honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Junior Kendra Dalton was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year and BYU head coach Carrie Roberts was named Coach of the Year, the WCC announcing its annual postseason league honors Tuesday.

Dalton, Rose Huang and Alexandra White were named to the All-WCC First Team.

No. 27 BYU captured two of the three major postseason honors for the second season in a row.

Fishburn, Rasmussen, Kuest receive All-WCC accolades

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Junior Patrick Fishburn was named Co-West Coast Conference Player of the Year and Rhett Rasmussen was named Freshman of the Year, as the league announced Tuesday its annual postseason awards. 

Rasmussen and Fishburn were also named to the 2016-17 All-WCC First Team, along with freshman teammate Peter Kuest.

Cougars secure at-large bid for NCAA Tournament

PROVO, Utah—BYU men’s volleyball secured an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships Sunday, receiving the No. 3 seed.

BYU (24-4) will play No. 6 seed Barton (23-5) Tuesday, May 2, at 6 p.m. EDT. The Cougars have never faced the Bulldogs before. It will also be the first meeting for BYU against a Conference Carolinas foe.

Should the Cougars advance, they would face No. 2 seed Long Beach State (27-3) in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. EDT.

Consecutive wins knock No. 19 San Diego out of first place

SAN DIEGO—A second-consecutive upset was registered by BYU baseball over No. 19 San Diego with a 12-8 victory on Saturday.

The Cougars (22-14 overall and 11-4 in the West Coast Conference) took the series by knocking the Toreros (27-11 and 13-5) out of first place in the league. BYU, who will sit no worse than third place in the WCC this weekend, moved up from fourth place past USD.

Thousands gather for BYU Fan Fest in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – BYU kicked off its first Fan Fest of the spring in Las Vegas on Saturday with thousands of fans enjoying an afternoon with Cougar coaches and athletes.

“It was a great turnout,” BYU football assistant head coach Ed Lamb said. “This many people showing up this far from Provo—it’s spectacular.”
