PROVO, Utah - BYU received a No. 10 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face No. 7-seed Oregon on Thursday in Milwaukee, Wis. Cougars receive at-large bid to 2014 NCAA Tournament

PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball has received an at-large invitation to the 2014 NCAA Tournament and will play Oregon of the Pac-12 in the second round of the West Region on Thursday in Milwaukee, Wis., at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. BYU is the No. 10 seed in the West Region and Oregon is the No. 7 seed.

The 2014 NCAA Tournament will be televised on CBS, TNT, TBS and truTV. All games will also be available online at

Ward stars at NCAA Indoor Championships

Albuquerque, N.M.-- Jared Ward took home another fourth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing the 3000 meters in 8:13.73 a day after taking fourth in the 5000 meters. 

"Ward really had a stellar meet," head coach Ed Eyestone said. "He scored 10 points by himself to get our team score in the top 20. He was big time this weekend."

With Ward's 10 points, the Cougars finished tied for 19th place. He qualified for All-American status in both the 5000 and 3000 meters. 

No. 3 BYU sweeps again, this time UC San Diego

PROVO, Utah – For the second night in a row No. 3 BYU men’s volleyball dominated its opponent, sweeping UC San Diego 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) Saturday at the Smith Fieldhouse.
The Cougars (15-4, 15-2 MPSF) have not lost a set at home since Jan. 24 against Stanford.
“It was a chance for us to play some guys that we normally don’t and get some different guys in our lineup,” BYU head coach Chris McGown said.

Season highs on floor and vault help BYU earn a 196.025

TUCSON, Ariz. - BYU gymnastics scored a 196.025 to finish second in a quad meet against nationally-ranked Arizona, Texas Woman's University and Bridgeport.

This marks the third time the Cougars have earned a 196 or better this season, a feat that was last achieved in 2005.

Arizona (196.425) took first in the meet. Texas Woman's (194.575) finished in third and Bridgeport (193.675) rounded out the group.

First place San Diego sweeps BYU, 17-8

PROVO, Utah – First place San Diego belted 22 hits in a 17-8 victory to complete a three-game sweep over BYU baseball Saturday.

The Toreros (14-4, 3-0 West Coast Conference) got four hits apiece from second baseman Austin Bailey and outfielder Hunter Mercado-Hood. Bailey had one of five doubles and scored the game-winning run off of Mercado-Hood’s first hit of the game in the second inning.

Ward takes fourth in the 5000 meters

Albuquerque, N.M.—On the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships, Jared Ward took fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 13:54.46 to post his second consecutive All-American finish in the event.

Oregon's Edward Cheserek took first place with a time of 13:46.67.

Ward’s fourth place finish gives the Cougars five points in the meet and they currently sit in a tie for 18th place. He will compete in the 3000 meters this evening at 7:40 p.m. MDT.

Favored San Diego beats BYU, 5-1

PROVO, Utah – Favored San Diego increased its stranglehold on first place with a 5-1 victory over BYU baseball Friday at Larry H. Miller field.

BYU defeats UC Irvine in three-set match

PROVO, Utah—No. 3 BYU men's volleyball defeated No. 8 UC Irvine at home Friday evening in a brief three-set battle 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17).

“They are a physical team in every position,” head coach Chris McGown said. “I think to some extent that they were a little road weary. The travel caught up with them a little bit.”
