BYU's Patch named MVP in NORCECA Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. BYU men's volleyball's incoming freshman Ben Patch was named the Most Valuable Player in the U.S. Men's Junior (U-21) National Volleyball Team's gold medal win over Canada in the 2012 NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship (U-21) on Saturday.

PROVO, Utah -- Led by a dynamic offensive attack, the BYU women’s soccer team remains undefeated at home after a 2-0 victory over Colorado College, Saturday.

“We played great team defense,” head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “Anytime you can hold someone to zero goals, it is a success. When you do that, you take the other team out of their rhythm.”

BYU takes down No. 14 Tennessee to win tourney

WICHITA, Kan.—Pulling off its biggest upset since 2007, the BYU women’s volleyball team handed No. 14 Tennessee its second loss of the season in a 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17) defeat of the Volunteers Saturday night.

The win gives BYU the Shocker Volleyball Classic crown and increases the Cougars’ unbeaten record to 6-0. Tennessee falls to 3-2 on the season.

WICHITA, Kan.—In its first match against a top-25 team this season, the BYU women’s volleyball team soundly defeated No. 24 Colorado State 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-16) Saturday in its second match of the Shocker Volleyball Classic.

Women's cross country shines at Utah State Invitational without top runners

PROVO, Utah – The BYU cross country teams kicked off the 2012 season on Saturday at the Utah State Invitational with great performances and some strategy to help propel them throughout the season.

In the women’s 5K race, BYU did not score after deciding to run two incomplete teams without the required five runners. The two teams consisted of an upperclassman team of two and a freshman team of four.

PROVO, Utah – The BYU cross country teams kicked off the 2012 season on Saturday at the Utah State Invitational with great performances and some strategy to help propel them throughout the season.

The BYU men’s team finished first overall in a four-mile race in front of Weber State, Utah, UVU and Utah State, without its top four runners competing in the race.

WICHITA, Kan.—Jennifer Hamson’s career-high 25 kills led the BYU women’s volleyball to a 3-2 (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 24-26, 18-16) victory against host Wichita State in the Cougars’ opening match of the Shocker Volleyball Classic Friday.

2012 men's cross country season preview

PROVO, Utah – With a solid core of returning athletes and several talented newcomers, the BYU men's cross country enters the 2012 season as a contender for conference, regional and national success.

"We're definitely hoping to build on the success we saw last year," said head coach Ed Eyestone. "If we take it one meet at a time, I believe it's possible. More importantly, the athletes believe it."
