No. 19 Cougars head to NCAA West Preliminaries

PROVO, Utah - The No. 19 BYU men’s track and field team heads to Austin, Texas, this weekend to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round for bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Cougars qualified the fourth most entries to the preliminary meets of any team in the country, behind Oregon, Texas A&M and Arkansas.

No. 13 ASU hosts BYU in tourney tune-up

No. 13 Arizona State hosts BYU Tuesday night in what the Cougars hope to use as a springboard to this week’s West Coast Conference Tournament.

BYU, 30-19 overall and 15-9 in the WCC, finishes the regular season at ASU, 34-17-1, 15-12,  in a game starting at 6:30 p.m. PT. ASU lost 7-6 to rival Arizona on Sunday.

PROVO, Utah—A throwing error in the fourth inning allowed speedster Jacob Hannemann to score the winning run in BYU baseball’s 14-3 victory over Saint Mary's College on Saturday at Larry H. Miller Field.

PROVO, Utah – Adam Law and a trio of BYU pitchers combined to lead BYU to a 6-3 victory over Saint Mary’s College Friday night, clinching a spot in the West Coast Conference tournament.

Law, Lopez named Academic All-WCC

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Juniors Adam Law and Bret Lopez of BYU have been named to the 25-member 2013 West Coast Conference Baseball All-Academic Team.

Law, a third baseman from Provo, has a cumulative 3.29 grade point average in sociology. Lopez, a designated hitter from Orem, has a 3.28 GPA in exercise science. Law has a team-leading .364 batting average and a .442 on-base percentage.

No. 3 Oregon defeats BYU 5-2 in Regional opener

EUGENE, Ore.—No. 3 Oregon used a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to defeat BYU 5-2 in the Eugene Regional opener on Thursday night. 

Poulson leads Cougars to 11-1 victory over Gaels

PROVO, Utah – Desmond Poulson threw a one-run game and Bret Lopez fueled a seven-run third inning to lead BYU to an 11-1 victory over Saint Mary's Thursday night.

With tonight's win at Larry H. Miller Field, BYU (28-19, 13-9) moves one game closer to a pivotal win over Saint Mary’s (21-32, 11-11) to clinch a berth in the West Coast Conference tournament. Saint Mary’s faces elimination tomorrow with a loss to the Cougars.

Coach Pearce named Mountain Region Coach of the Year

Coach Pearce led the Cougars to a 21-7 finish in 2013.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently named BYU head coach Brad Pearce the Mountain Region Coach of the Year. Pearce also won the award in 2010.
 
Under Pearce’s guidance, the Cougars are undefeated in region play over the last four seasons. This year, BYU defeated No. 45 Boise State, 4-3 on April 6, ending the Broncos’ 28-home match win steak. BYU then completed its perfect run by topping No.

Kyle Van Noy named to Lott Trophy Watch List

PROVO, Utah (May 16, 2013) — BYU All-American linebacker Kyle Van Noy was named to the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List announced Thursday by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.

Forty-two student-athletes from 37 different colleges were named to the watch list and represent players who have made the biggest IMPACT on their teams both on and off the field.  IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

BYU to send 25 to NCAA West Preliminary

PROVO, Utah – All-American distance runner Jared Ward will lead 25 BYU student-athletes to the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Championships in Austin, Texas, from May 23 to 25.

Ward will compete in both the 10,000-meter and the 5,000-meter runs, where he is ranked fourth and seventh, respectively.
