Cougars maul Broncos on the road

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—A steal by Keilani Unga ended a last-minute Bronco comeback attempt, helping the BYU women’s basketball team shut down Santa Clara 65-48 on the road Saturday afternoon.

BYU improves to 15-6 on the season and 6-2 in West Coast Conference play, good for second place in the league. Santa Clara falls to 12-10 and 4-5 in conference.

No. 1 BYU falls to No. 7 Long Beach State in five-set thriller

PROVO, Utah – In its second five-set match of the year, No. 1 BYU men's volleyball team fell to No. 7 Long Beach State University 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-16, 10-15) Friday in the Smith Fieldhouse.

“Long Beach played really well and were able to run an offense that we had a tough time defending," head coach Chris McGown said. “They came out confident, and we didn’t have the emotion that we would’ve liked to have seen tonight."

Gymnasts score season high at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho (Feb. 1, 2013) – In a rematch against Boise State the BYU women’s gymnastics team scored a season-best 195.125 but fell to the Broncos for a second consecutive week.

“All said and done it wasn’t half bad. That’s the direction we want to be moving in,” head coach Brad Cattermole said. “Anytime you get above a 195 that doesn’t hurt.”

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s track and field team heads to New York this weekend to compete in the annual New Balance Invitational, one of the most prestigious indoor meets of the year.

“The meet director at Armory has put years of effort into turning this meet into a big deal,” head coach Patrick Shane said. “It is the granddaddy of all indoor meets. It consistently brings together the best teams from across the nation.”
