The West Coast Conference today released the 2013-14 women’s basketball schedule. Teams open up league play the last week of December.

OREM, Utah – Junior Tambre Haddock led the No. 25 BYU women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-8, 25-11) victory over in-state opponent Utah Valley University Tuesday night.
“I liked our composure,” BYU head coach Shawn Olmstead said.

BYU withstands No. 25 LSU 4-2

Baton Rouge, La. - The No. 6 BYU women's soccer team beat the No. 25 LSU Tigers 4-2 on Monday night.

Four different players scored for BYU (3-0-0) as the Cougars outshot the Tigers 28-7, but didn't hold a lead until the 68th minute.

After a loss at Virginia Aug. 31, BYU football returns to Provo to host No. 15 Texas Saturday at 5 p.m. MDT at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and the Longhorn Network, as well as the Cougar IMG Sports Network 1160 AM, 102.7 FM and BYUcougars.com. Fans in Texas can listen in on KVET 1300 AM.

Cougars return to Utah to face UVU

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s volleyball team heads back to Utah to face in-state opponent Utah Valley University after starting the season 1-2 in the Hampton Inn Invitational in Ohio.

The Cougars face the Wolverines on Tuesday at 7 p.m. MDT in the PE Building at UVU. This is the 11th match between the two teams, with the Cougars taking the last matchup 3-0 in Provo in 2012.

UVU went 1-2 over the weekend in the La Quinta Inn & Suites Invite. The Wolverines defeated NDSU 3-0, and lost in three sets to both Arizona State and No. 24 Wichita State.

Arellano receives special teams honor

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees, Army linebacker Geoffery Bacon and BYU punter Scott Arellano have been named FBS Independent Players of the Week, for games played through Saturday, Aug. 31.  Rees is the honoree on Offense, Bacon is recognized on Defense, and Arellano is cited on Special Teams.  The awards are the third career awards each for Rees and Bacon, while Arellano is a first-time recipient.

BYU beats Nebraska 3-0 on historic night

In front of a record crowd, the No. 6 BYU women’s soccer team recorded its 100th home shutout in team history with a 3-0 victory over Nebraska Saturday night at South Field.  

“Nebraska is a dangerous offensive team and showed us a style of play that we haven’t seen in a while,” head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “It’s tough when you have four or five girls coming like Nebraska was throwing at us but our defense played really well.”
