BYU Track Jumps to Eighth in the Polls

NEW ORLEANS - After a successful weekend in their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, the BYU men's track and field team jumped an impressive eight spots to No. 8 in the national polls, by far their highest ranking of the season.

Cusick Named to WCC All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the 2012 West Coast Conference Menʼs Basketball All-Academic Team. Four members of this yearʼs team appeared on the 2010-11 All-Academic Team for menʼs basketball, including Pepperdineʼs Taylor Darby and Corbin Moore – each of whom are making their third appearance on the squad.

No. 4 Arkansas Hosts Two-Game Series

No. 4 Arkansas hosts BYU baseball Tuesday to start a two-game series.

Arkansas (7-1) hosts BYU (4-2) in the second meeting between the two schools, but it is the first time the Cougars have gone to Fayetteville.  BYU leads the series 1-0 with a 6-5 upset over then No. 7 Arkansas in 1990 at the Pepsi/Me-N-Ed’s Tournament in Fresno, Calif.

Rose Advances to Charity Foundation Final

BYU head coach Dave Rose has advanced to the final round of the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge, moving him one step closer to receiving $100,000 for the Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation.

Rose is up against Bob Huggins of West Virginia, Frank Haith of Missouri and Thad Matta of Ohio State. Fans can vote every day from now until March 8.

Bracket Announced for WCC Championships

2012 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships Bracket

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced the brackets and game times for the 2012 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The tournament will begin with a women’s first round match-up at 3 p.m. PST on Wednesday, February 29 and continue through the men’s championship game on Monday, March 5. 

Cathedral Classic Ends with 11-4 Victory

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The BYU softball team finished the Cathedral City Classic with a bang, rounding up 15 hits on its way to an 11-3 victory against Long Island University Brooklyn on Saturday.

Freshman pitcher Caroline Umphlett earned the win as the starter in the circle to improve to 5-1 on the year. Umphlett pitched 4.0 innings giving up one hit and one run with four strikeouts against the Blackbirds.

BYU Upset By No. 12 Gauchos

PROVO, Utah – The No. 3 BYU men's volleyball team lost in a nail-biting five sets to No. 12 UC Santa Barbara after coming off a 3-1 win against the Gauchos on Friday. 

"A lot of credit to Santa Barbara," said head coach Chris McGown. "They found some momentum in the third set and they kept going.  They played really well, were almost mistake free and did a nice job."
