BYU continues its home stand with Santa Clara and San Francisco this week. The Cougars moved into a tie for second place with San Francisco thanks to victories over Pacific and Saint Mary's last week. They have a chance to create some separation for second place when they face San Francisco on Saturday. First, the Cougars host Santa Clara on Thursday.

Gonzaga remains atop the conference with a three-game cushion. The Bulldogs entered the AP Top 25 this week at No. 23, joining their No. 20 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

One of the last members of the 1942 BYU Foootball Team — the first team to defeat Utah — passed away last week in Smithfield, Utah. Glen Oliverson, a single wing back at BYU, made the block that led to the winning touchdown in a 12-7 victory on Oct. 10, 1942. Glen played three season of varsity football at BYU in 1942, 1946-47.
