BYU wins Mid-Major Challenge with five first-place finishes

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The BYU women’s track & field team finished with five first-place finishes and multiple second-place finishes to narrowly win the Mid-Major Challenge this weekend, 155-147, over Sacramento State.

PROVO, Utah – Utility man Cody Shepherd hit a pinch-hit RBI double in the eighth inning to give the BYU baseball team a 7-6 victory Saturday afternoon at Larry H. Miller Field.

The Cougars (19-15, 7-5 West Coast Conference) had production from multiple players coming off the bench to take the series. The Pilots (13-22, 5-7 WCC) grabbed an early 3-0 lead and didn’t score any earned runs during the game.

Howell notches perfect game, records two wins

Howell completed the second perfect game in BYU softball history against LMU on Saturday.

PROVO, Utah – Senior pitcher Hannah Howell found her groove behind the mound, leading BYU to an 9-4 victory during game one and recording a perfect game during game two to preserve the 11-0 victory over the Loyola Marymount Lions Saturday.

Cougars remain undefeated in region play over four seasons

Freshman John Pearce's victory on court 6 clinched the 4-3 win for BYU.

SPOKANE, Wash. – In the last match of the day, freshman John Pearce earned the decisive point for a 4-3 victory, giving No. 39 BYU men’s tennis team the win over No. 72 Idaho on Friday.

The win over Idaho (20-5) secured a four-year undefeated record through mountain region action for BYU (18-4). The match also marked the seventh consecutive win for the Cougars as they improve to 8-2 against ranked teams this season.

BYU started off strong by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts 2 and 3.

Davies leads team to Portsmouth championship game

PROVO, Utah – Jaycob Brugman’s three-run home run highlighted a six-run fourth inning to lead BYU baseball to an 11-7 victory over Portland at Larry H. Miller Field Friday night.

Cougars sweep Pacific on road

STOCKTON, Calif. – The No. 1 BYU men’s volleyball team swept Pacific on the road (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) Friday.

The Cougars, who have secured the regular season MPSF title and No. 1 seed in the MPSF tournament, improve to 21-4 overall and 20-3 in the MPSF. Pacific falls to 8-19 overall and 5-18 in MPSF play.

Cougarettes take two national titles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—BYU’s Cougarettes seized two national championships at the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Competition, taking both the hip hop and open dance titles for the first time in history.

“We did amazing,” Cougarette coach Jodi Maxfield said. “We scored two of the highest scores of the entire competition. We’re pretty excited. It’s unprecedented to win in dance and hip hop. We’ve won both before, but never in the same year.”
