SALT LAKE CITY – The BYU women’s basketball team (5-4)  earned three points in the Deseret First Duel by defeating the Utah Utes (7-1) 53-48 at the Jon M. Hunstman Center on Saturday.

“This was a good win for us, we really needed it,” BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. “This was a great game, a defensive battle by both teams. I give a lot of credit to the defensive effort from our wings.”

BYU vs. Utah State rescheduled for Feb. 19

PROVO, Utah – BYU athletics announced today that the BYU vs. Utah State basketball game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. MST at the Marriott Center. The game will be broadcast on live BYUtv.

The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 5 but was postponed due to the serious medical situation of USU student-athlete Danny Berger that occurred during practice on Dec. 4. Berger’s condition was upgraded from critical to fair on Thursday and was released from the hospital this morning.

Season ends with NCAA Tournament loss to Oregon

OMAHA, Neb. – A magical season for BYU women’s volleyball came to an end on Friday as the No. 12 seed Cougars fell 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 12-25) to No. 5 seed Oregon in the Round of 16 at the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose’s fight against cancer will be featured on CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, MD on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. MT. The feature is part of the Human Factor series and touches on Rose’s cancer scare in June of 2009 and what he has learned from the experience.

BYU vs. Utah preview

The BYU men’s basketball team (5-3) will host instate rival Utah tomorrow night at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center as part of the Deseret First Duel.

BYU is coming off a 62-83 loss on the road to Iowa State a week ago.

Against the Cyclones, Brandon Davies led all players with 20 points and six rebounds. Matt Carlino also scored in double-figure points with a season high of 12.

Three former Cougars on NFL Pro Bowl Ballot

Why did you choose to come to BYU?

I love the school and the tradition it has. The basketball program is great, so it was kind of an easy choice.

If you could do one thing extremely well, besides basketball, what would that be?

Probably golf, which I’m really bad at.

When did you start playing basketball?

At three or four years old I started shooting hoops, so I’ve pretty much always played. My dad loves basketball so he kind of got me into it.

Rockwood named Regional Coach of the Year

PROVO, Utah - BYU women's soccer head coach Jennifer Rockwood has been named the NSCAA West Regional Head Coach of the Year. 

Rockwood led the Cougars to a 20-2-2 record this year for its most successful overall season in program history. BYU made its first run back to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight since the 2003 campaign and won its first outright West Coast Conference title while achieving its highest ranking ever, a No. 2 national ranking in the final regular season poll.
