Shaquille Walker discusses his victory in the 800 meter final at the 2012 USA Junior Track and Field Championships on June 16. Walker will represent the U.S. at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona from July 10 to 15.

APR recognition for a seventh-straight year

PROVO, Utah – For the seventh-straight year, BYU men’s basketball has received public recognition from the NCAA for earning an Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in the top 10 percent of all NCAA Division I men’s basketball programs.

The NCAA’s APR calculation includes eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a clear picture of the academic culture of each sport.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – BYU freshman Shaquille Walker won the 800 meter final at the USA Junior Championships on Saturday to earn a spot in the IAAF World Junior Championships.

Chris Miles doing good on and off the court

The Deseret News posted an article online today about former Cougar big man Chris Miles. The 6-foot-11 center is coming off a successful season with the Hanau White Wings in Germany where he averaged 12.6 points and 7.7 rebounds. He helped Hanau to a 13-9 record and a spot in the postseason.

A final season for Vance Law as head coach culminated with a 22-27 overall record for BYU baseball and a 10-14 finish in its inaugural year with the West Coast Conference.

Law finished a 13-year career at the Cougar helm with a 397-348-2 (. 533) record in a season that began with a four-game Thanksgiving trip to the Dominican Republic.

ESPN announces television plans for BYU-Utah football game

PROVO, Utah — ESPN today announced the television network schedule for the 2012 BYU-Utah football game at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game will be aired on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. MT on ESPN2.

The Cougars and Utes will meet for the 88th time, with Utah leading the series 51-32-4. With the Utah game on ESPN2, BYU will play in front of a national television audience in seven of its first eight games of the 2012 season. Broadcast plans for the other five games will be announced at a later date.
