Bus Trip to Pepperdine

Three weeks ago BYU was notified its flight plans to California were scrubbed by the airlines.  The Cougars left this morning on their longest bus trip of the season.  Prior to this bus trip, the longest bus trip of the season was a couple-hour ride from Tulsa to No. 4 Arkansas.

Guenther Cleared to Play

PROVO, Utah—In the last baseball matchup between BYU and Southern Utah University, the Cougars pulled off a 5-4 victory in an eventful seventh inning despite an injury-depleted lineup Tuesday at Miller Park.

“A win is a win,” BYU head coach Vance Law said. “We anticipated a good game from SUU. I’m pleased our guys were resilient enough to come back. Our relievers came in and did their job, which was critical for the win.”

Keiley and Blair Receive Invite to Regionals

PROVO, Utah –After winning its first tournament in two years, the BYU men’s golf team is sending junior Zac Blair and sophomore Justin Keiley to the NCAA Regionals at Stanford May 17-19.

“It’s a testament to how well those two guys have played,” BYU assistant coach Todd Miller said. “Zac has played well the last three years, but we didn’t know Justin would get there, so that’s exciting.”

Likely Last BYU-SUU Tilt in Baseball

Tuesday night’s BYU game in Provo against Southern Utah is likely the last baseball contest between the two schools.

SUU (15-28) is dropping baseball after this season as it readies to enter the Big Sky Conference.  BYU (18-21) leads the series with the Thunderbirds, 146-32.  The Cougars won the last outing in 2009 vs. SUU, 8-3. The BYU-SUU series began in 1961 in Provo when BYU won five straight.

Ogletree Named to Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- BYU senior linebacker Brandon Ogletree has been named to the 2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year for excellent performance both on and off the field. This year's list features 42 of the most accomplished student-athletes in the country.

Almond Claims Pitcher of the Week

DENVER – Brigham Young’s Tori Almond has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for April 30-May 6.

Hawai‘i’s Kelly Majam was also named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.
