Toney Tabbed Academic All-Region

PROVO, Utah - BYU senior softball player Stacie Toney was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team for her efforts as an all-around student-athlete.

Toney is an elementary education major with a 3.77 GPA and was one of four infielders named to the District 8 Team which comprises schools from eight western states and Canda. Playing second base for the majority of the season, Toney is the only Utah native to be named Academic All-Region from any division in any region.

PROVO, Utah – No. 19 San Diego took a two-game lead over BYU baseball to solidify its first place league standing with a 14-7 victory Thursday at Larry H. Miller Field.

The Toreros (34-11, 11-5) stayed atop the West Coast Conference thanks to a pinch-hit, two-run single from Jon Hotta in the seventh inning to regain the lead, 8-7. 

Starting pitcher Desmond Poulson held on to the BYU (18-19, 7-6) lead, after a pair of doubles between the third and fourth, until he was retired in the seventh.

BYU and Boise State to play Thursday, Sept. 20 on ESPN

BYU’s 2012 football schedule has changed.

The BYU vs. Boise State game in Boise, Idaho, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, will now be played on Thursday, Sept. 20. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. The kick time for the game will be announced at a later date.

Nevada Series Rounds Out WAC Regular Season

PROVO, Utah - In its last regular season games of the year, the BYU softball team will take on Nevada this Friday and Saturday in a three-game series.

BYU (37-13, 12-4 WAC) is still fighting with Hawai'i and Fresno State for the top three seeds in next week's WAC Tournament and will look to extend its current eight-game win streak when the Cougars travel to Reno to face the Wolf Pack (21-31, 9-9).

BYU Uses Eight Innings to Get By UVU

OREM, Utah - BYU's JC Clayton had four hits and Tori Almond totaled nine strikeouts in a complete game as the Cougar softball team got by Utah Valley 7-4 in eight innings on Wednesday.

BYU (37-13) out-hit the Wolverines 14-4 and committed just one error to UVU's five, but 16 runners left on base helped Utah Valley scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.

Vote to bring ESPN College GameDay to Provo for commercial

PROVO, Utah - Fans can vote for BYU in the 2012 Bring ESPN College GameDay to Your Campus Vote. For the first time ever, ESPN will film a College GameDay commercial this summer on a campus selected by fans.

Fans from all Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools will be able to vote to have the opportunity for GameDay to shoot an ad on their campus in late July or early August. The school that receives the most votes over a 10-day period beginning May 1st and ending May 10th at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Five BYU Players Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

DALLAS -- Five players on the 2011 BYU football team were recognized Wednesday by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as members of the 2012 NFF Hampshire Honor Society.

The 2012 NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. A total of 721 players from 232 schools qualified for membership in the society's sixth year, marking this year's class as the largest since the program's creation in 2007.

Batrakov, Smith and Kawka Receive All-WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced senior Georgy Batrakov and junior Spencer Smith have been named to the 2012 All-WCC First and Second Team Singles, respectively. The league also announced that Batrakov and sophomore Patrick Kawka were named to the All-WCC Second Team Doubles.

OREM, Utah (May 1, 2012)--A record crowd of 5,456 fans witnessed Utah Valley University extend its 24-game win streak Tuesday night with a 14-11 victory over BYU baseball.

 

BYU (18-18 overall) grabbed the lead a couple of times midway through the game, partially due to doubling its home run output for the season and out-hitting UVU, 16-13.
