The purpose of the Touchdown Club is to provide scholarships for former football walk-ons who have earned an athletic grant-in-aid. Cougar fans across the nation (Currently receiving donations from all 50 states and Canada and South America) participate by making donations ($1 or more per touchdown) to help Coach Mendenhall and the BYU Football Team.
Former Cougar walk-ons like Chad Lewis, Andrew Rich, Brian Kariya, Matt Bauman, Shane Hunter, and many others have become starters, team captains, All-Americans, and NFL stars.
The Touchdown Club is specially designed to ensure that Coach Mendenhall can continue to recruit and develop some of the best walk-ons in the nation at BYU. Every dollar contributed by Touchdown Club Members provides scholarships.
With the cost of the average athletic grant-in-aid at more than $12,000 annually, our ambitious goal is to fund every former walk-on player on the team, with the sole except of those who receive a scholarship provided by an individual donor. In its first year in 2010, Touchdown Club contributions totaled $14,481. In 2011, fans from all over joined in on the cause and helped the contributions rise to over $24,000!
