COLORADO SPRINGS -- Among 125 BYU student-athletes who received Academic All-Mountain West honors, five players of the women's basketball team were named for the 2002-03 season.
Lisa Hansen, Kristen Crockett, Jennifer Leitner, Jennie Overdiek and Nancy Seljaas earned academic honors and added to the team by working hard both on and off the court.
To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at BYU while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
Senior center Lisa Hansen, a 6-5 native of Bakersfield, Calif. is majoring in mass communications and started in 10 of the 31 games during the 2002-03 season. Hansen led the team in blocks with 27 and had a season and a career-high six blocks against Boise State.
Sophomore forward Kristen Crockett, a 6-2 Utah native is majoring in psychology and played in her first game as a Cougar in January 2003. Crockett had a season-high 10 points and six rebounds against the Air Force Academy.
Senior forward Jennifer Leitner, a 6-1 native of Chico, Calif. is majoring in Physical Education. Leitner averaged 13 points, 8.7 rebounds and two blocks per game during her senior year and picked up her 14th career double-double with a game-high 18 points and 17 rebounds against Santa Barbara.
Freshman guard Jennie Overdiek, a 5-10 Utah native and undecided major started in 12 of the 31 games of the season. She marked a career-high 15 points against UNLV and a career-high 12 rebounds against the University of New Mexico during the regular season.
Freshman guard Nancy Seljaas, a 6-0 Utah native and pre-athletic training major played in 29 games of the season. She picked up a season-high 13 points and six rebounds against Air Force this year.
Crockett, Overdiek and Seljaas will be returning to the Cougar line up during the upcoming 2003-04 season.
