MWC Championships in Denver, UNLV First Round Opponent

After compiling a 5-9 league, 15-13 overall record and finishing in 6th place in the regular MWC season, the Cougar women are set to play in this year's MWC Championships in Denver, Colorado. In first round action, BYU will play UNLV, who finished third with a 21-6, 10-4 record. Tip off from the Pepsi Center is set for 8:30 p.m.

BYU in MWC Championships - History

The Cougar women have advanced to the championship game in all four previous MWC tournaments, winning in 2002 by defeating UNLV 61-46. That same year, BYU went on to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. At least two Cougar players have made the All-Tournament team in all four years.

First Round Opponent At MWC Tourney - UNLV

8:30 p.m. #3 UNLV vs. #6 BYU

UNLV and BYU meet in the quarterfinals for the third time in four years. The Cougars are 3-0 vs. the Rebels in MWC Championship play, including a victory in the 2002 title game. BYU leads the all-time series 15-8, but the Rebels swept the Cougars in the regular season. UNLV is 3-4 in the MWC Tournament, while the Cougars are 9-3. After playing each other in the final regular season MWC game, the Rebels and Cougars will meet again in the quarterfinal round in this year's MWC Women's Basketball Championships. UNLV comes into this week's tournament as the number three seed with a 21-6, 10-4 record after upsetting Utah in Salt Lake City last Thursday night. Toping the leader board in scoring is RanDee Henry with 18.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Two teammates join her in double figure scoring with Sheena Moore tallying 16.0 points and 3.7 rebounds. Junior Sherry McCracklin is contributing 14.1 points a team high 10.2 boards a game for UNLV. The team is shooting 45 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free throw line. Behind the arc they shoot 29 percent and score 72.3 points per game, while holding opponents to 61 points a game.
