Seljaas Leads Team in Low Scoring Exhibition Win

Orem, Utah (Nov. 11, 2003) In the final warm-up before the 2003-04 basketball season gets officially underway, BYU's women's basketball team squeaked out a two-point 49-47 win over Utah Valley State College, Tuesday.

The low scoring first half extended into the second half with the Cougars going on a five minute shooting slump before freshman Tiari Goold tied up the score at 42-42 with 7:55 left in the contest.

Sophomore forward Nancy Seljaas, who started in the exhibition game, would score BYU's final points of the contest, a three-pointer with 5:52 to go. Despite a good defensive effort by both teams, neither was able to score, missing several easy lay-up opportunities down the stretch.

Seljaas led the Cougar effort with13 points going 4-5 from three-point range. Ashleigh Chamberlain also scored in double figures with 12, adding eight rebounds. Jennie Overdiek also grabbed eight boards for BYU.

The Wolverines' Katie Wilson led all scores in the contest with 14 points and a game high nine rebounds. UVSC shot 40 percent from the field and 58 from the free throw line, while BYU shot a low 31 percent from the field. The Cougars out rebounded the Wolverines by three 39 to 36.

The BYU team opens the regular season at Weber State on Friday, Nov. 21.
