Riding a four-game winning streak, the Cougar women’s basketball team (7-3) plays one game at home this week. They host Portland State (5-3) Sat. Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.

The Cougars are led in scoring by senior guard Mindy Bonham who averages 12.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Senior forward Coriann Fraughton follows contributing 10.4 points and a team high 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Haley Hall leads the way in the assist category with a total of 48 for a 4.8 average per game and in steals with 24 to date.

Jazmine Foreman has the team’s best free throw percentage at .895, 17-19 while junior center Kristen Riley is tops in the field goal percentage category at .548, 34-62.

-- BYU head coach Jeff Judkins has compiled a 187-102 record as of Dec. 12 and is 13 wins away from picking up his 200th career victory.

-- With the 5 points scored in the home victory over Weber State on 12/11/10, senior guard Mindy Bonham has tallied 1,004 points and becomes the 20th player to join BYU’s elite 1,000-point club.

-- Bonham has dished out a total of 339 assists as of 12/13/10. She ranks ninth all-time, and needs nine more to tie for eighth place with Melinda Johnsen who dished out a total of 347.

-- Jazmine Foreman has 324 career assists as of 12/13/10. She needs 13 to tie Sullivan’s record of 337, which would place her in a tie for 10th place all-time.

The Vikings enter this week with a 5-3 record before traveling to Reno to play Nevada on Thurs. Dec. 16. Portland State returns nine letterwinners including three starters from last year’s squad that went 18-15, 9-7. Four players are putting up double digits in scoring for PSU led by 13.3 points from Courtney VanBrocklin who also tops the list in the rebound category grabbing 6.5 boards per game. She’s followed by Kelli Vallentine who averages 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds. Next is Eryn Jones who contributes 11.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Rounding out the double figures in points is Shauneice Samms who tallies 10.0 points and 5.9 boards a game. The team’s assist leader is Jones with a total of 42 while VanBrocklin tops the list in the steals category with 11 to date. Head coach Sherri Murrell is in her fourth year at the helm of the Vikings women’s basketball program.

Last Meeting

In the last matchup between these two schools, Portland State defeated BYU 73-64 on Nov. 14, 2008 in Portland.

What’s Next

The Cougars have one more game at home before the end of the month. They host Montana State on Thurs. Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. BYU will finish its nonconference schedule playing at Gonzaga on Dec. 21 and at Nevada on Jan. 1.
