PROVO -- BYU fans have the opportunity to meet the men's and women's basketball teams Saturday at the second annual "Cougar Hoopla" event being held at the Provo Towne Centre mall.
Both teams will be at the food court on the second level of the mall from noon--2 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come meet, converse, and take pictures with the players and coaches. Posters, schedule cards and magnets will be available. Prizes will also be given away during the two-hour event.
"We're excited for the opportunity to take the teams to the fans again this year," BYU Director of Athletic Marketing Tony Jewkes said. "Last year we had a great response. It provides an opportunity for the fans to get to know our outstanding student-athletes and coaches in a relaxed, informal environment. We anticipate an exciting and fun basketball season from both of these programs."
Led by Preseason All-Mountain West Conference players and MWC Player of the Year candidates Mark Bigelow and Rafael Araujo, the men's team is considered the favorite to win the Mountain West Conference. The women's team is picked second behind Utah with a strong team headlined by Preseason All-MWC forward Danielle Cheesman.
The men's team opens its exhibition season Thursday in the Marriott Center against the EA Sports West All-Stars. The women's team defeated Westminster College Tuesday in its exhibition opener.
