COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (Mar. 10, 2003) Senior All-American Erin Thorn and sophomore forward Danielle Cheesman picked up First and Second Team MWC honors.
The regular season awards which are voted on by the coaches were announced by the league office, Monday.
The First Team award for Thorn is the fourth consecutive accolade she's received in her BYU college career. Thorn leads the MWC in free throw percentage (90.1) and ranks second in three-point shooting percentage (42.7 percent) and assists (5.78 apg). She's currently fifth in the nation with 3.3 treys made per game and has a current streak of 35 straight game with at least one three pointer.
Cheesman picked up her first MWC award as a Second Team honoree. She is the Cougars' second leading scorer with an average of 11.1 points and leads the team in rebounds with 5.5 boards per game.
BYU finished the league race with an 8-6 record and is the no. five seed in this year's MWC tournament. They will meet hosts UNLV in the second quarterfinal game on Wed. Mar. 12 at 3:30 p.m. MST., and will be televised live on BYU-TV. All games will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center. Cougar fans can also follow the action on the internet at www.byuradio.org
