PROVO, Utah (May 22, 2003) Former BYU All-American Erin Thorn is the first Cougar female to play in the WNBA. Thorn was officially added to the New York Liberty roster on Wednesday after a three-week training camp.
Thorn was Liberty's second-round pick, and the 16th player chosen overall in last month's WNBA draft. She will be under a three-year contract.
The former BYU All-American finished her college basketball career as the leading 3-point shooter in the program's history. She's also the school's fourth all-time leading scorer.
Thorn joins two other former MWC players, Becky Hammon from CSU and Linda Frohlich from UNLV on the New York Liberty. The team's first game is on May 31 at Cleveland Rockers.
