SAN -- The No. 14 BYU Cougars are currently in second place at the Taylormade Aztec Fall Classic after the first round of play.

The Cougars sent two full teams to the tournament and are making an impressive showing. The BYU Blue team is currently in second place. The BYU White team is in 10th place among the 20 teams competing.

Natalia Jimenez is the current BYU team leader in fourth place with a two-under-par. BYU also has two other golfers in the top 20. Juli Erekson is currently tied for 12th place while Alexis Edwards is tied for 16th.

"The tournaments are helping the girls get experience," said assistant coach Dave DeSantis. "It also helps the coaches see who really wants it."

While the Cougar Blue team is in second place, there is much room to improve. The Cougars as a team shot eight-over-par and were not making the shots they hoped to.

"Today was a disappointing round," said DeSantis. "We expected to shoot under par as a team. We hope to re-group and bring it on tomorrow."

Currently, The University of Denver leads the tournament 17 strokes ahead of the Cougars. Emily Hoeper of the University of Denver is in first place.

BYU will wrap-up the Taylormade Aztec Fall Classic Tuesday. More information will be available on www.byucougars.com as well as golfstat.com.
