SAMMAMISH -- After one round completed in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, the Cougars finished 27-over-par, 10th in a pool of 16 teams.

The Invitational, an annual competition for BYU, features competitive opponents with No. 3 Southern California and No. 4 Arizona State finishing in first and second place, respectively, on the day.

The Cougars battled against the course during their first round, shooting 15-over-par on the back nine. Through the remainder of the round, they picked up six birdies to shoot 12-over-par on the front nine.

"We're playing a very tough, wet course," said head coach Sue Nyhus. "We finished really strong with a couple of excellent birdies to end the round."

BYU was led by senior Juli Erekson's 4-over-par performance. She shot 3-over-par on the back nine. With two birdies on the front nine, Erekson balanced out the round to finish 4-over.

Daphne Vines followed just behind Erekson with a rocky back-nine performance followed by improved play on the front nine to end 5-over-par on the day.

"We're looking forward to moving up the leader board tomorrow," added coach Nyhus.

The women, who are one stroke behind the hosting team, Washington, will play one more round Tuesday before the final round on Wednesday. Tee times begin a 10 a.m. PT, and live stats are available at
