LAKELAND -- BYU graduate Rachel Newren and BYU senior Juli Erekson finished fourth and tied for fifth, respectively, at the 2008 Duramed FUTURES Tour Qualifying Tournament Friday in Florida.
Newren earned fully exempt status on the tour with her finish. She finished four shots out of the lead with a four-round total of 1-under-par 70-74-70-73 -- 287. Erekson finished the tournament five shots out of the lead at even-par 71-71-72-74 -- 288, and will receive fully exempt status after she plays her senior season at BYU.
The 72-hole tournament finished at the 6,203-yard, par-72 Cleveland Heights Golf Course, the Tour's home course. More than 300 players began the tournament, but the field was cut to 93 after 54 holes.
