Five Cougars qualify for Public Links

Far Hills, N.J. (June 18, 2007) -- Five members of the 2007-08 BYU Women's Golf Team qualified for the USGA Women's Public Links.

"Having five players from one school in a national championship is certainly a rare event," said Coach Sue Nyhus. "We're proud of the way these student athletes represent BYU and our golf program."

Juli Erekson was exempt because of her quarterfinal appearance in last year's Public Links. Wightman advanced past the stroke-play portion of the event held at Kearney Hills Golf Course. In the round of 64 Wightman was defeated after 19 holes by quarterfinalist Mari Chun of Hawaii. Camille Gardner and Ashley Childers qualified in two of the three spots in the Utah qualifier while Daphne Vines earned one of the three spots in Las Vegas qualifier. Vines missed qualifying for the final 64 by one stroke. Incoming freshman Jade Bollinger earned a chance to compete after plaing her way in at the Florida qualifier.

The depth of the team continues to be one of BYU's biggest strengths. After best season in program history, things seem on the right track for continued success.
