SAMMAMISH -- BYU women's golf shot a much improved 10-over-par during the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and sits in ninth place, 315-298--613 + 37, after two rounds.

The Invitational is hosted by Washington and is being played at the par 72, 6,127 yard Sahalee Country Club. The No. 3 Southern California is leading the 16-team pool at 296-291--587 +11.

"I'm very proud of the way the girls played today, giving it their all despite the poor conditions, " BYU coach Sue Nyhus said. "We were striking the ball as well as any other team out there and we've placed ourselves in a position where we can catch other teams."

Natalia Jimenez's improved over her first round 8-over-par to finish with an even par for the second round. Her second round was highlighted with birdies on both the second hole and the 18th hole.

"Natalia Jimenez hit the ball very well all day long," Nyhus said. "She was backed up by Daphne Vines and Juli Erekson, who also had strong days."

Vines, who leads the team through the Invitational at 77-73--150, started the round with a birdie on the 10th hole and finished strong on the back nine with another birdie on the seventh hole.

Vines is tied for 14th place on the leader board, just in front of Erekson who is tied for 17th place. Erekson's 3-over-par second round also helped anchor the team.

Last year the Cougars finished ninth in the Invitational and look to improve this year during the final round at the Sahalee Country Club. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. PT, and live stats are available at www.byucougars.com.
