Provo, Utah (December 5, 2005) -- The BYU women's gymnastics team finds itself ranked in the top 25 again--ranked 19th in the preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Dec. 2.
BYU received 180 points to finish 19th in the voting. Georgia claimed the top spot with Utah at No. 2 and UCLA third.
"We've got somewhere to go from here," coach Brad Cattermole said. "It gives us something to work for. When the end of the season rolls around, we hope to be at the National Championships."
Cattermole enters his 18th season at the helm. He has posted a career record of 156-130-1 and has led the Cougars to eight NCAA Championship meet appearances.
Last season BYU finished with a No. 11 ranking and its first trip to nationals in five seasons.
The Cougars return seven letterwinners this season, including five that competed at the NCAA Championships last season. Leading the way is junior Kacie Capra, who finished eighth in the individual all-around at the regional meet. Also returning are sophomore Dayna Smart and junior Lisa Willis, who sat out last season as a medical redshirt.
BYU will open the 2006 season on Jan. 13 at Oregon State in a four-team meet that includes No. 13 Oregon State, No. 6 Florida and Iowa. They will face No. 2 and in-state rival Utah on Feb. 24 in Provo.
